For some of you this is the year – after grumbling about power bills that never go down, you’re ready to make the switch to clean, reliable, affordable solar energy.
So what’s next?
Before you start contacting providers (and we hope Precis will be at the top of that list!) it’s a good idea to prepare questions that will make the process easier. By choosing the right queries, you’ll also make it easier to separate the quality solar panel providers from those that promise much and deliver little.
Here are the queries we hear most often, as well as one or two we think more of our customers should ask.
Who will be installing my residential solar panels?
(Inquire about whether the contractor uses professionals that are experienced, licensed and permitted, and meet California insurance and training requirements)
What rebates and incentives are available when purchasing solar panels?
How do I handle the transition to solar with the power company?
(Your solar provider may help you with getting approval from the utility to connect your solar installation to the grid, and tell you about fees or net excess power credits – at Precis, we will explain all of this in detail)
Are there any ‘hidden costs’?
There should not be – the details of your solar purchase and installation should be clearly spelled out in the contract.
What type of warranty will I receive?
You should receive a warranty that covers both equipment and workmanship.
What will the project cost?
Obviously you’ll get to this question sooner or later, but it’s not just important to understand the cost of the panels and installation, but also to take advantage of financing opportunities available through the contractor. Precis, for instance, offers both zero-down and full-prepaid leases, as well as other loan programs.
With these questions you will be prepared to make an informed decision, and feel confident that you are working with a respected solar panel contractor.
